Susan Constant Restoration Progress

Summer 2024

Jamestown Settlement's Susan Constant, flagship of Virginia's founding fleet, is undergoing a multiyear restoration at the shipyard at Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut.

Captain Eric Speth, longtime director of Maritime Operations, is overseeing the project and work by Mystic shipwrights and craftsmen dedicated to preserving this vessel of maritime history.

On July 23, 2024, a closeup of Susan Constant's rigging hardware - deadeyes, chain plates and chain bolts removed from the hull. Replacement or restoration of all deadeye straps is part of the repair project.
