New Legacy Interactive Exhibit

The Legacy area at the end of the Jamestown Settlement permanent galleries is being refreshed to allow visitors to reflect on what the nation’s history means to them and what can be done to advance initiatives they feel are important. The new exhibit will focus on three broad legacy topics that incorporate several aspects affecting life in America: Civic Responsibility, Cultural Diversity and Environmental Impacts.

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will engage in a community service project honoring one of these three Jamestown legacies during winter 2025 based on the voting results.

American Red Cross
Project: Veteran Program Support

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to people affected by disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members and their families.

Chippokes State Park
Project: Environmental Maintenance

Just across the James River from historic Jamestown in beautiful Surry County, Chippokes is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country. A working farm since 1619, the park offers modern recreational activities and a glimpse of life in a bygone era. To ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the park and historic area, continuing maintenance is required.
