Ships’ Pier and Ships
Pier capacity: 900 reception, 450 seated
This dramatic setting on the banks of the James River can host a variety of events, from receptions to concerts and dining. The Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, re-creations of the ships that brought America’s first permanent English colonists, are moored at the ships’ pier. Guests may view the ships during your event and provide the perfect backdrop for special photos. An open-air shelter resembling a 17th-century harbor building is located on the pier.
The Great Hall
Capacity: 300 reception, 200 seated
The Great Hall extends from the rotunda to the gazebo and provides an elegant setting for a reception or dining. Graphics telling the Jamestown story line the wall and 17th-century style copper fixtures light the two-story space. The Great Hall accesses both the galleries and patios.
Gazebo and Patio
Gazebo: 150 reception, 96 seated; Patios: 600 reception, 450 seated
At the end of the Great Hall, the open-air gazebo is a beautiful outdoor covered space for dining and dancing. Adjacent to the mall and Great Hall, this patio stretches the length of the museum galleries and is open to the mall.
Robert V. Hatcher, Jr. Rotunda
Capacity: 150 reception, 108 seated
The 45-foot dome supports an 8-foot tall copper reproduction chandelier. The colorful custom Oriental-design carpeting and slate floor define this elegant space. A balcony overlooks the rotunda and is perfect for ceremonies. The rotunda connects to the Robins Foundation Theater and Great Hall.
James Fort
Capacity: 2,900 reception, 270 seated
A wooden palisade encloses the re-created 17th-century fort. There are thatched or wood-shaked roofs on buildings representing a guardhouse, storehouse, and living quarters for colonists, craftsmen, soldiers and a governor. In this exciting space, guests can participate in a military drill or witness a demonstration of a matchlock musket being fired. The unconsecrated church dominates the fort and has seating for brief gatherings.
Paspahegh Town
Capacity: 2,900 reception, 270 seated
The re-created Virginia Indian town is patterned after an archaeological site of a Paspahegh town nearby. Powhatan-style houses, or yehakins, in a wooded setting create a historical backdrop for a unique outdoor experience. A boardwalk forms a semi-circle around the re-created town and may be used for banquets or receptions.
The Mall
Size: 48,000 square feet
With the expanse of the museum as a backdrop, this open space is perfect for large gatherings. Complete an event in another outdoor area with an activity or concert on the mall. The area is surrounded by brick terraces and the Legacy Walk, and has access to restrooms and the parking lot.
Robins Foundation Theater
250 seats
This state-of-art 250-seat theater is equipped with a digital projection system and large screen. The theater floor and comfortable, padded seats provide a clear view to the stage.
Ferguson Lobby
Capacity 200 reception, 124 seated
The entrance lobby at Jamestown Settlement is the perfect place to welcome guests. A soaring 42-foot high ceiling gives a sense of the outdoors with floor-to-ceiling windows, brick and wood surfaces and structural “trees” supporting the canopy-like roof.
Riverfront Amenities Area
The riverfront amenities area provides restroom facilities and a staging area for catering at the outdoor areas located between Paspahegh Town and the ships’ pier. It is easily accessible from all outdoor locations and has a separate entrance for service vehicles.
