Deborah Wilkinson

Deborah Wilkinson, a citizen of Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe and owner of Adamstown Gourds & Such. She describes herself as a Native American artist crafting modern gourd art integrated with Eastern Woodlands culture.

 

Wilkinson presented a 45-minute talk on the Indigenous cultivation and use of gourds as practical objects and for artistic expression as part of the 2024 Talking History Lecture series. Watch her presentation.


Trudith Dyer

Native American artist Trudith Dyer, a member of the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, discussed the inspiration behind her artwork, “Paper Genocide,” displayed during the Reign & Rebellion special exhibition at Jamestown Settlement. Another work, “Grandma’s Cape,” was on display in the special exhibition at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Dyer, who resides in Columbia, South Carolina, is an active member of the Indigenous Women’s Alliance of South Carolina.
