JYF Museums Offer Ticket Options to Escape to the Past

Williamsburg, Va. – Travelers will find a variety of ways to plan a visit to Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, living-history museums that tell the story of the nation’s beginnings through engaging experiences in gallery exhibits and outdoor re-created settings.

At Jamestown Settlement, visitors can climb aboard one of three ships, re-creations of those that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, watch a matchlock musket fire in a colonial fort, and learn about tools and technology of the Powhatan Indians in a re-created Paspahegh town. Expansive exhibition galleries portray 17th-century Virginia in the context of its Powhatan Indian, English and West Central African cultures through artifacts, films and interactive exhibits.

At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, comprehensive exhibits and films transport visitors from the beginnings of colonial unrest to the formation of the new nation. Outdoors, a re-created Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm provide encounters with the daily lives of soldiers and civilians. Visitors can explore soldiers’ tents, enlist in the Continental Army, learn about 18th-century medical treatments and see how flax is processed into fiber.
