Slave Spy: The Story of James Lafayette

An enslaved African American during the Revolutionary War who volunteered to act as a spy for the patriot cause, James Lafayette would prove instrumental to the American victory at the Siege of Yorktown. “Slave Spy,” a half-hour play written and directed by Abigail Schumann, an Emmy Award-winning producer and script writer, features narration of Lafayette’s story interspersed with videotaped segments wherein the audience meets other characters. The production, commissioned by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and supported with a gift from Harry and Judy Wason, debuted in 2017 at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
