WILLIAMSBURG, Va., June 17, 2011 – Three staff members of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that operates Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center history museums, received meritorious service awards at a June 7 event that also recognized 71 employees for reaching service milestones and 156 individuals for commitment to the Foundation’s volunteer program.

Senior Outreach Instructor Michael K. Crookshank of Williamsburg was honored as Gold Employee of 2010, and Historical Interpreter Donald N. Hulick of Claremont as Silver Employee of 2010.  Executive Office Services Assistant and Museum Program Assistant Joni D. Carlson of Surry was named Gold Customer Service Recipient of 2010.

Thirty-two full-time employees were recognized for achieving state service milestones during the past year.  Executive Director Philip G. Emerson and Communications Specialist Robert W. Jeffrey Jr., both of Williamsburg, and Executive Assistant to the Boards Laura W. Bailey of Providence Forge were each honored for 25 years of state service.  Exhibit Services Assistant Manager Mary R. Pugh of Williamsburg was recognized for 20 years of state service. Fifteen-year service awards were presented to Senior Director of Marketing and Retail Operations Susan K. Bak of Norfolk, and Ships Maintenance Supervisor Richard T. Egnor of Williamsburg and Outreach Education and Special Services Assistant Director Heather S. Hower of Williamsburg.

Ten-year service awards were presented to Senior Development Officer Julie W. Basic, Outreach Scheduler Elizabeth M. Baum, Historical Interpreter Vincent A. Petty, Chief Development Officer Carter S. Sonders, Museum Interpretive Site Supervisor Sally A. Stook, Visitor Services Technician Barbara B. Walsh and Outreach Education Instructor Donna M. Watson, all of Williamsburg; Senior Financial Specialist Patricia H. Beck of Newport News; Gift Shop Supervisor Pamela L. Brooks of Hampton; Senior Sales and Promotions Manager Joan A. Heikens of Norfolk; Visitor Services Technician Marsha J. Hughes of Hayes; Graphics Design Supervisor John M. Kauffman of Richmond; and Senior Exhibit Fabricator William E. Stickney of Gloucester. Twelve full-time employees received five-year service awards.         

Three individuals received awards for 20 years of part-time service to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation:  Administrative Assistant Natalie M. Champagne of Yorktown, and Museum Program Assistants Margaret M. Montgomery and Carol W. Sorensen, both of Williamsburg.

Awards for 15 years of part-time service went to Museum Program Assistant Ersilia H. Bazzani of Hayes, Receptionist Janice R. Johnston of Yorktown, Survey Data Collector Holly F. LaBelle of Newport News, Museum Program Assistant Pat P. Woollum of Williamsburg, and Outreach Education Instructor Anthony Burcher and Visitor Services Technician Susan E. Mahady, both of Lanexa.  Seventeen part-time employees were recognized for 10 years of state service and 13 part-time employees were received five-year service awards.

A total of 125 volunteers who contributed more than 100 hours of service in 2010 and 31 who reached cumulative service milestones were recognized, including Bill Blair of Gloucester for attaining 10,000 hours of cumulative service; James Magill Jr. of Williamsburg and John Robinson of Hampton for 6,000 hours; Doug Lindeman of New Bern, N.C., for 5,500 hours; Frank McGuirk of Williamsburg for 4,500 hours; Bob Nichols of Yorktown and Noel Veden of Williamsburg for 4,000 hours; Fred Blystone of Williamsburg for 3,500 hours; Gene Bjerke, Jack Kirchner, Karen Peifer and Chuck Reusing, all of Williamsburg, for 3,000 hours; and Steve Link, Chan Mielke, Dick Turner, Rich Watkins and Fay Weirich, all of Williamsburg, for 2,500 hours.  Serving in all facets of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s operation, from greeting museum visitors to serving as crew on the Jamestown Settlement ships, nearly 900 volunteers provided 59,955 hours of service hours in 2010.  For more information about the volunteer program, call (757) 253-4034.
