Jamestown Settlement’s Susan Constant Sailing to Norfolk for 41st Annual Harborfest Event

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., June 1, 2017 – Jamestown Settlement’s Susan Constant, a re-creation of one of the three vessels that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, will participate in the 41st Annual Norfolk Harborfest® June 9-11, including a parade of sail that starts in Hampton Roads and arrives off Town Point Park at noon, Friday, June 9.

Jamestown Settlement Susan ConstantThe ship will be docked at Norfolk’s Waterside Marina throughout the weekend and will be open for public tours 3 to 6 p.m. on June 9 and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11.

Jamestown Settlement’s Susan Constant marked its 25-year anniversary in 2016. The ship was built at Jamestown Settlement in 1990 and commissioned in April 1991.

While the Susan Constant is away from Jamestown Settlement, a living-history museum of 17th-century Virginia operated by the state’s Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, visitors will have access to the Godspeed and Discovery, re-creations of the other two 1607 vessels.

The Susan Constant is sailed by a crew of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff and volunteers, and its voyages are supported with private donations. Jamestown Settlement is located on State Route 31 and the Colonial Parkway (2110 Jamestown Road) next to Historic Jamestowne, site of the original 1607 settlement.
