WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 28, 2013 – Jamestown Settlement’s Godspeed will participate in the 37th Annual Norfolk Harborfest® June 7-9, leading tall ships in a parade of sail on Friday, June 7.  The ship will be docked at Norfolk’s Waterside Marina throughout the weekend and will be open for public tours 3 to 6 p.m. June 7 and noon to 6 p.m. June 8 and 9.

A re-creation of one of the three vessels that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, the Godspeed is based at Jamestown Settlement, a museum of 17th-century Virginia operated by the state’s Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.  While the Godspeed is away, museum visitors will have access to the Susan Constant and Discovery, re-creations of the other two 1607 ships.

In early fall the Godspeed is scheduled to visit Henricus Historical Park, where it will be open for tours on September 21 and 22 and host pre-scheduled student groups September 23 and 24.  The ship also will host education programs and public tours on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, with visits to Onancock October 19-21 and Cape Charles October 25-27.

The Godspeed is sailed by a crew of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff and volunteers, and its voyages are supported with private donations.  Jamestown Settlement is located at State Route 31 and the Colonial Parkway (2110 Jamestown Road), just southwest of Williamsburg.  For more information, call (888) 593-4682 or visit hif.ciniva.net.  For details about Norfolk Harborfest, visit www.festevents.org.
