‘American Revolution Museum at Yorktown Campaign for Support’ Exceeds $15 Million Goal

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., October 17, 2017 – The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown Campaign for Support, which culminated on July 31, 2017, exceeded its $15 million goal with $16.8 million in gifts and grants.

The Campaign for Support, publicly announced in 2015, paralleled the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s master plan to transform the Yorktown Victory Center into the new American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. The new museum was dedicated April 1. The comprehensive private fundraising campaign complements the Commonwealth of Virginia’s $51 million public investment in planning, site renovations, and building and exhibit construction of the new museum. The Campaign for Support raised significant support from the private sector for the new museum’s gallery exhibits and outdoor exhibits, the Foundation’s educational resources, and the Foundation, Inc., Annual Fund.

Led by Co-Chairs Charlie and Mari Ann Banks of Gloucester, the Campaign for Support inspired participation from more than 6,500 foundations, corporations and private citizens representing 46 states and Washington, D.C.

“We are grateful for the generosity of our donors and are humbled by the impact of their philanthropy on the new museum and on our educational mission,” said Cliff Fleet, president of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc.

Gifts and grants to the campaign helped the Foundation secure period artifacts that are an essential component of the gallery experience and funded the production of films and interactive technology throughout the galleries, including the “Siege of Yorktown” film shown in an experiential theater. Construction of historical structures on the Revolution-era farm and historical elements of the new Continental Army encampment, including the artillery firing station, were funded in part by campaign gifts. New educational initiatives are being developed and long-standing programs updated and expanded, thanks to support from campaign donors.

Emerson, executive director of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. “We are very fortunate to have a dedicated community that provides important support for our museums and for the education programs that enable the Foundation to elevate its stature as a leader in history education.”
