Distance Learning through Interactive Video Conferencing
Immersive History in Your Classroom
What are you looking for?
The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation has been educating Virginia students for decades through field trips and outreach programming. In May 2019, students living outside the Commonwealth of Virginia will be able to learn about our nation’s earliest history through the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s new Interactive Video Conferencing program.
Students will remain in their classrooms as they connect with Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation instructors to learn about Jamestown and the American Revolution. Since all participants can see and hear each other in real time, lessons are interactive and inquiry-based. During each program, students answer questions and are able to ask questions posed by the museum instructor.
Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Launches First Interactive Video Conferencing Pilot Program
“Jamestown: Three Cultures, One Land” is designed to carry students on a dynamic, inquiry-based exploration of the three cultures that converged at Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America.
Using reproduction artifacts and primary sources, students will compare and contrast the cultures of the Powhatan (an Eastern Woodlands Tribe), west central Africans, and English who lived in Early America during the beginning of the 17th century. Using this knowledge, students will examine the interrelations between the three groups and discover how the legacies of each culture lives on in 21st-century America.
Cost is $125.
